When your family is full of foodies and eats variety, you tend to come up with creating healthier versions of food they demand. So this is one such dish, that I like to tweak a little and make in wheat flour replacing white flour. When the final dish comes out to be tastier then!! why opt for regular dim sum?? and not "Wheat ones"??
It is also a fat free recipe, which makes this dish even more healthier. Only some drops of oil is used to grease the pan.Healthy Dim Sum (Wheat Momo)
RECIPE
Instagram post can be found under this link
Yields: 12 momos
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes
Tools needed: Steamer, rolling pin
INGREDIENTS
For filling;
Red bell pepper 2 tbsp
Yellow bell pepper 2 tbsp
Capsicum 4 tbsp
Cabbage shredded 1/2 cup
Carrot grated 1/2 cup
Garlic cheese spread 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Pepper powder to taste
Cumin powder 1 tsp
For dough
Wheat flour 3/4 cup + extra for dusting
Salt 1 pinch
Few drops for greasing
METHOD
In a mixing bowl add flour, salt and knead a semi stiff dough. Cover with damp cloth and keep aside.
Wash chop and grate vegetables.
Take them in a bowl add a teaspoon of salt and let it sit for 5 minutes.
In a kitchen towel, take the vegetables and squeeze out the excess liquid. Add this liquid in dals, curries or soups.
Tranfer the veggies to the bowl again, and add salt, pepper powder, cumin powder and garlic cheese spread.
Mix and filling is ready.
Place a steamer pan on medium flame or like I have organized a temporary steamer using a large kadai.
Grease the bottom of a vegetables strainer with few drops of oil. To make it completely oilfree, keep a banana leaf in the bottom of the pan and skip the greasing part.
Divide dough in small equal sized balls.
Dust one ball in some flour and roll out disc. Keep the discs thick in centre and thinner on the edges.
Place 1 tablespoon of filling in centre.
Apply very little water around the edges so they stick nicely and do not open while steaming.
Lift the disc unto hands. Make pleats on one side and stick other side by pressing with fingers s thumb. Prepare all the momos in same manner.
Place 6 dumplings in steamer, cover with lid and wait for 10 minutes or until the dumplings leaves the strainer and comes out easily.
Steam the next batch.
Serve immediately with chili dip or sauce.
