Sorghum Bottle Roti/Jowar Bhakri

Sorghum is a gluten free flour, its healthy, nutritious and fiber rich. A single roti made from sorghum flour keeps your stomach full for a longer time and hence is found good for people who are wanting to loose weight or are simply focusing on eating clean and healthy.

But not all can make rotis from this flour as it is a little difficult to handle it, many a times the roti crumbles or remains undercooked.

Adding finely grated lauki/bottle gourd helped in binding the dough. It not only became a little easier to make rotis, but also they became more fiber rich and nutritious.

RECIPE
Serves: 4
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Tools Needed: Skillet

INGREDIENTS

2 cups jowar/sorghum flour
2 tablespoons flax seeds powder
2 tablespoons Soyabean flour
1 teaspoon Salt
1/2 Bottle-Gourd
1/2 cup Extra flour for dusting

METHOD

Finely grate half a Bottle-Gourd.

In a bowl add sorghum, flax and Soya-bean flour, salt and grated lauki

Mix together well. Make a dough by adding little water at a time. As lauki gives out lot of moisture and the dough will become sticky.

Divide into 8 equal balls.

Using dry flour, make round discs out of the dough balls. Grease your palm with oil if required.

Roast both sides of the roti over a skillet.

Immediately keep the roti directly over the flame. The roti will fluff up. Remove from flame. Make all the rotis in this same manner.

Rotis are ready use them as wraps or enjoy with your favourite curries or chutney.

Drizzle some clarified butter on top of each roti and serve immediately.
