Salty Lassi/ Chaas

Salted Lassi/ Chaas is India’s traditional drink, it is found to be one of the best healthy drinks which beats the heat and protects us from sun strokes during scortching heat of summers. During summer months, set curd at home on a regular basis and drink salted lassi to beat the heat.

Use thick homemade curd made from full fat to get richer and thicker lassi. But skimmed milk works fine too.

Lassi benefits are enormous, salted lassi with cumin is nutritive, aids in digestion, helps control blood sugar level, has anti-inflammatory effect, boosts memory, helps in weight loss, contains antioxidants, prevents body from parasites etc.

Lassi contains good bacteria that lubricate the intestines, aid digestion and helps to reduce gas and bloating. It helps to pacify Vatta imbalances.

Similar to the sweet lassi the ingredients to make salted lassi recipe are also only few. The basic salted lassi recipe needs slightly sour curd, salt and water.

But the basic recipe can be improvised by adding some spices and flavorings. Like ginger juice or dry ginger is added if someone is suffering from bad stomach. Many like to add green chili or black pepper to give depth and kick to the regular chaas or lassi.

Adding fresh mint, curry leaves and coriander leaves gives herby, refreshing taste, these herbs again can be substituted with dried leaves during off season due to unavailability. One can simply replace normal salt to black salt or rock salt or pink salt.

Here I have added homemade roasted and powdered cumin seeds, regular salt, Himalayan pink salt to thick curd, added some water and churned this in mixer, you may do this with wooden churner as well.
